No Need to Fear Park's Bobcats, Officials say

Arlington, Texas — September 10, 2003

River Legacy Parks' 1,300 acres provide a natural habitat for bobcats, but in the past six months the sightings have become more frequent -- sometimes even four to six reports of the cat sightings a day, park officials say. "Some tell me they've seen a mountain lion or a jaguar," says Craig Turley, lead landscape technician at the north Arlington park. "I hear all sorts of stories."

Only slightly larger than house cats, bobcats pose no threat to people using the park. But park officials recommend using caution if you should meet up with the wild animal.
What to do if you see a bobcat:

• Think before you act.
• Do not approach it.
• Do not run from it.
• Do not feed it.
• Appreciate it.
