Teams Compete in Cardboard Regatta

Arlington, Texas — May 4, 2003

Brave souls in 86 boats tested the waters Saturday during the 14th annual Cardboard Boat Regatta at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor. The fund raiser benefits River Legacy Foundation programs. Seven boats were built on-site for the regatta's newest competition. Each team of builders was given pieces of cardboard, a piece of plastic, duct tape, a straight-edge and a box cutter to build a vessel in two hours.

The vessels in all categories had to make it once around Hurricane Harbor's wave pool without sinking to win cardboard trophies handcrafted by Pantego Christian Academy students.
