Summer adventures at River Legacy Living Science Center provide students with an exciting hands-on, minds-on opportunity to explore the natural world.

Classes and Class Schedules - 2013 _ Scouting badge connections are in green following eligible classes
Preschool (Classes are $175 per session. Children must be 3, 4, or 5/entering kindergarten by the session date in which they are enrolled. Also, they must be fully toilet trained.)
3-year-olds
Scales & Tails – 9 am - 12 pm or 1 - 4 pm • June 17-21 and June 24-28 (Session 1 AM Full)
Explore a scaly assortment of the Living Science Center's cold-blooded creatures who have what it takes to be a reptile.
Winged Wonders – 9 am - 12 pm or 1 - 4 pm • July 8-12 and July 15-19 (Session 3 AM & Session 4 AM Full)
What would you do if YOU had wings? Learn about some of River Legacy's wonderful winged creatures and the surprising things they can do with THEIR wings.
4-year-olds
Animal Sense-Abilities – 9 am - 12 pm or 1 - 4 pm • June 17-21 and June 24-June 28 (Session 2 AM Full)
How does an earthworm hear? Why do snails wave their eyes around on stalks? You know how we use our senses - now learn how animals' senses help them to survive in River Legacy Parks.
Hide & Seek – 9 am - 12 pm or 1 - 4 pm • July 8-12 and July 15-19 (Session 4 AM Full)
Examine the remarkable escape and defense mechanisms of numerous River Legacy Parks animals as they assume the role of predator or prey.
5-year-olds/Entering kindergarten
Mighty Morphs – 9 am - 12 pm or 1 - 4 pm • June 17-21 and June 24-28
Explore the astonishing transformations of special River Legacy Parks’ animals as they undergo the wondrous process of metamorphosis.
Wet & Wild – 9 am - 12 pm or 1 - 4 pm • July 8-12 and July 15-19 (Session 3 AM & Session 4 AM Full)
Join in a hands-on exploration of the astounding aquatic adaptations exhibited by the plants and animals dwelling within the watery environments of River Legacy Parks.
1st – 8th Grades (1st-4th grade classes are $175 per session; 5th-8th grade classes are $200 per session)

Nature's Art Box – 9 am - 12 pm or 1 - 4 pm • June 17-21, June 24-28 and July 22-26 (Session 1 AM Full; Session 2 AM & PM Full)
Peek inside River Legacy Parks' "art box" and discover the magnificent materials provided by nature and used by artists to create everything from paints and dyes to paper and clay.

Spectacular Spiders – 9 am - 12 pm or 1 - 4 pm • July 8-12, July 15-19 and July 22-26 (Session 4 AM Full)
Young spiderologists will create a Spider Sanctuary and discover the secrets of the Arachnida's most skillful architects and unusual hunters.

Entering 3rd & 4th grades
Texas Predators – 9 am - 12 pm or 1 pm - 4 pm • June 17-21 and June 24-28
Prowl the woods in search of evidence that predators live in River Legacy Parks. Examine the relationship between predator and prey, and develop an appreciation for the role of both the hunted and the hunter in maintaining the balance of nature.

Hands-on Entomology – 9 am - 12 pm or 1 - 4 pm • July 8-12 and July 15-19 (Session 4 AM Full)
Explore woodland, grassland and aquatic habitats to discover the amazing variety of insects that make their home in River Legacy Parks. Learn how to safely identify, capture, preserve and mount specimens to create your own insect collection.

Entering 5th & 6th Grades
Nature’s Nocturnal Wonders! -- 6 - 9 pm M,T,W; 6 pm Thurs - 8 am Fri. • June 17-21 and June 24-28 (Session 2 FULL)
Look deeply into the mysteries of the dark to catch a glimpse of the rarely seen nocturnal inhabitants of River Legacy Parks. This evening class includes a Thursday night sleepover featuring a night hike and an upclose look at rescued bats from Bat Conservation International. Students who enrolled in Nocturnal Wonders last summer are encouraged to attend again. Class concludes at 8 am Friday morning.

Focus on Nature – 9 am to 12 pm or 1 - 4 pm • July 8-12 and July 15-19
$10 materials fee
Capture the beauty of the natural world with digital cameras. Learn the basics of composition and developing your artistic vision. Share the results of your efforts in a photographic exhibit at the Science Center. Cameras, printers and supplies will be provided.

Entering 7th & 8th Grades
Epic Geocaching (NEW!) – 9 am to 2 pm • July 23-25 (Three-day class)
Learn GPS technology and the basic rules of geocaching, an adventure based treasure hunt. Work with your friends to find and create caches in River Legacy Parks.
