Painting benefits River Legacy Foundation
This watercolor titled "River Legacy" by Stuart and Scott Gentling depicts a Snowy Egret gazing down on the Trinity River. After Stuart visited River Legacy Parks this summer, he and his brother Scott offered to create this painting for a benefit gala River Legacy Foundation is planning this spring. The painting was completed just days before Stuart died unexpectedly on August 30.
Proceeds from the sale of 19.5" X 26" giclee prints
of "River Legacy" will benefit the Foundation. The
giclees, printed on a fine art, ultra-smooth fiber based archival
paper, are being sold for $550.
Giclee (pronounced Gee'clay) prints are generated from high-resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks. The image has all the tonalities and hues of the original painting.
The prints are signed by Scott Gentling: "Drawn by Stuart W. Gentling, Painted by Scott Gentling, July 2006." Each giclee comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by Scott Gentling.
In an essay Stuart wrote to accompany the painting, he says he chose to depict the Snowy Egret, one of the river's most elegant inhabitants, not only for its exceptional beauty but because this bird represents an important conservation success story. Snowy Egrets were on the verge of extinction a hundred years ago because feather hunters would kill nesting rookeries for the bird's beautiful nuptial plumes. The Federal Migratory Bird Protection Act of 1913 was inspired largely by the plight of the Snowy Egret.
