Living Science Center Field Investigations

Facilitated by Living Science Center naturalists, Field Investigations take a look at the plant and animal life and environments of River Legacy Parks. Investigations are developed for specific age groups (kindergarten through eighth grade), as naturalists help students meet and explore the plants and animal architects that form the environments of River Legacy Parks.

Let’s Investigate River Legacy Parks’ Seasonal Ecology
(Kindergarten - 2nd grades)
Students explore the seasonal ecology of River Legacy Parks and observe the animals and plants inhabiting these woods during any given season.

Let’s Meet River Legacy Parks’ Architects
(3rd - 5th grades)
Students study the structures built by the animal architects of River Legacy Parks and compare it to the architecture of the Living Science Center.

Let’s Explore River Legacy Parks’ Water Environments
(6th - 8th grades)
Students participate in a hands-on investigation of the multiple water environments within River Legacy Parks and compare the similarities and differences among them.

Investigations are offered on select Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. A minimum of 15 students is required for an investigation; 66 students is the maximum.

To schedule an investigation or for more information, call Cindy Almond at 817.860.6752.

Young Scientists Program
(AISD 4th grade students)
All AISD 4th graders participate in the Living Science Center's Young Scientists Program. Before coming to the Living Science Center, AISD teachers receive a kit with materials necessary for their students to undertake a hands-on exploration of their own schoolyard ecology. Later, students come to the Living Science Center for outdoor and indoor field investigations. This allows them to hone the science process skills they've developed at school and deepen their understandings of basic biological and ecological concepts as they compare the ecology of River Legacy's woods to that of their own schoolyard.
