River Legacy Living Science Center will be closed Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7 to prepare for our annual Fall Festival, After Dark in the Park which will be held from 5 to 9 pm Oct. 7, 8 & 9. On Thursday, Oct. 6, guests will be able to purchase After Dark in the Park Family Fun Packs inside the Acorns Gift Shop at the Science Center, but all other areas of the Science Center will be closed. During after-school clubs at River Legacy, students have the unique experience of exploring the plants, animals and habitats of a riparian forest in the middle of the Metroplex. Clubs are:

  • Nature Explorers - K-1st Grades
  • Eco-Detectives - 2nd -3rd Grades
  • Junior Naturalists - 4th-6th Grades

Clubs meet once a month from September through April (except December). Sign up online for 2016-2017 After-School Clubs or e-mail registrar@riverlegacy.org for more information.

Home School Science Classes

Home School programs help augment science studies by providing hands-on experiences using the animal collections and specimens of River Legacy Living Science Center. Create fall-themed wine bottle crafts. Instruction, supplies, and a tasty adult beverage will be provided. This month's featured drink is a Bloody Mary. Wine and light appetizers will also be served. Trekking Down the Trinity

Join Charley Kemp, an ACA Level IV Whitewater Instructor, with Adventures Unlimited Paddling Company, for a guided 3-to-4-hour paddling trip down the Trinity River. Take-in and Put Out sites to be determined depending on water flow and level. Shuttle service will be provided. Brings lots of water, sunscreen, sunglasses/hat, water shoes and lunch in a waterproof container.  Kayaking experience required. Cost is $25 per person and includes kayak, paddles, life jacket and shuttle service. Best suited for ages 16 and up. Dress appropriately for a river outing, be prepared to walk through mud/difficult terrain and for possible boat portage. Must RSVP and pay at time of registration. Wild Edibles

Season 2 Masterchef finalist Ben Starr will discuss the various native wild edibles available and then will lead a nature walk along the nature trails to forage for wild edibles in River Legacy. This adult workshop is free, but space is limited. Please RSVP to 817.860.6752. Best suited for ages 16 and up.
